As far as anyone knows, the bids may very well have been turned in by the deadline.
But here's the thing: it's impossible to say for certain.
Land owned by Huron County west of the county airport was put up for bid to lease it for agricultural purposes. Bids were due by 1 p.m. March 14 at the Norwalk-Huron County Airport.
Because no officials were at the airport office as time expired, there's no guarantee someone didn't tamper with the submittals.
The county is expected to rebid the land starting next week. As an extra precaution, the county will accept the bid documents at the office of the county commissioners, 180 Milan Ave., Norwalk.
Bids are due by 11 a.m. April 8.
