The elevator at the Erie County Courthouse only serves four floors, but Deputy Tony Myers of the Erie County Sheriff's office has discovered riding it can take a long time.
Last year, Myers said, he stepped on the elevator for a short ride up.
It was a hot day.
The elevator stopped halfway between the second and third floors and would not move.
Other county workers got the doors open, but the bottom of the elevator was several feet above the second floor, leaving only about a foot of space to wiggle out. A stepladder was set up on the second floor.
"I lay down on my stomach and scooted out backwards," Myers said.
