Authorities pulled a man out of his car Saturday afternoon after the vehicle careened off the road and hit several items before landing in an icy pool of water.
The one-vehicle accident occurred about 12:10 p.m. Saturday along the Cedar Point Chaussee near the willows, said Sgt. Rich Cottrill of the Sandusky Police Department.
Patrick Dolan, 61, 1600 block of Willow Drive, lost control of his 2006 Jaguar driving north on the two-lane road. The vehicle drove off the right side of the road, hit a phone pole and rock wall and sent the vehicle into the air before it broke through the ice-covered water.
Authorities arrived at the scene two minutes later to find Dolan still inside the vehicle.
Firefighters waded through the water to pull Dolan out of the totaled car.
Cottrill said police authorities are confident Dolan drove faster than the road's posted 25 mph speed limit.
He was cited for failure to control and charged with driving under the influence.
Dolan was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center where he was treated in the emergency room and released later in the afternoon.
He showed no visible injuries at the time of the accident, Cottrill said.
