Speer gets four years for friend's drowning

PORT CLINTON

Scott Speer, 43, of Fairlawn, received a four-year sentence for the 2002 boating death of his friend Jim Barnett. Speer will also pay a $10,000 fine and court costs.

Last week Speer was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter. He was found not guilty of murder and aggravated murder.

Dressed in a suit and tie, Speer could not keep his voice from cracking and held back tears while he addressed the court Wednesday.
