NORWALK

The pilot of a small plane walked away unhurt Saturday after he lost power and was forced to land on a Huron County road.

Pilot Shawn Kappner, 41, Mainville, crash-landed about 9:30 a.m. Saturday on Laylin Road south of U.S. 20 in Norwalk.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Kappner left Double J Airport in Cincinnati about 6:45 a.m. Saturday in the single-engine 2007 Skyraider he owns, bound for the Huron County Airport in Norwalk.

Kappner told troopers he lost power and tried to set the plane down on Laylin Road. The plane fishtailed as it landed and veered off the east side of the road, striking a ditch.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and Kappner's plane was moved to Huron County Airport.
