More than 2,000 luminaries lined the track of Perkins High School Friday night.
"What that means to us," Barbara Kearny explained, "is that there will be at least 2,000 people in the hearts and minds of all the people here. Every one of those bags has a name."
Kearny and Gene Kidwell, both Sandusky residents, started the Erie County Relay for Life 10 years ago. Both are cancer survivors.
The Erie County Relay for Life started with 12 teams of people who raised $20,000 in their first year. Since then the Erie County Relay has raised more than $1 million for the American Cancer Society.
This year the Determined Dancers, a group of 38 area girls, raised $1,700 for the American Cancer Society through a community garage sale.
