To answer Running Empty's question in the online forum June 18: "How can Care and Share go through so much food/donations?"
Consider that in March, April and May of this year, we gave one week's supply of food each month to 5,076 persons representing 1,774 households. Do the math and consider the cost. Also, consider that 11,100 Erie County residents live below the poverty level. Residents of low income status (200 percent of poverty) is estimated at 19,7000.
These people are our neighbors who live and struggle to make it all the time. Many of them work at jobs, but at hours worked at wages paid are totally inadequate. It is civi, right and just that we assist them.
