When are ignorant, self-righteous, bigots going to stop judging people who may be "different"? The recent letter in the Forum saying gay or lesbian couples should not be allowed to "marry," or be parents to children tells me that that person is not the Christian person he or she claims to be. Gay men and women are not freaks who have chosen to live in abominable sin, and therefore should not be denied the same human rights our Constitution gave to everyone. Call it "civil union" or "legal partnership" if you don't like the term "marriage". Don't you think these people are capable of making lifelong commitments to each other as much as a traditional bride and groom?
How would it make you feel to hear someone saying hateful, spiteful words about decent, caring people, if you were the parent of a gay son or daughter? They have not chosen to be gay. It is decided at the moment of conception. Who can say that they would be "bad" parents? They choose to become parents because they love children and it is truly a choice for them. What's wrong with two moms or two dads if the child is raised and nurtured in a loving home, learning good values? Many heterosexual couples don't give their children good moral and ethical values, and many children are abused physically or sexually by their so-called "normal" parents. Would you look at them in the same way?
These people are not perverted sinners, but are God's children as much as you and me, and therefore do not deserve to be judged by another mortal.
