The two sides battling over who owns Ohio’s beaches — the landowners who live along Lake Erie or the public — agree on one point: Gov. Ted Strickland’s stance will be critical.

The governor, who promised to side with landowners when he campaigned last year, has said little on the subject since actually taking office. What he and his spokespeople have said indicates he stands by his promises, but is trying to find a compromise to bridge the differences between two sides.
