VERMILION

The Vermilion Skate Park is still closed after vandals continue to return and destroy parts of the public property for more than a month.

Police say the nearly 4-year-old park, at Douglas Street and Devon Drive, has been the target of serious vandalism since early April. A fire was set to a portable toilet, park benches were torn out of the ground and ramps were ruined. Other parts of the property have also been defaced or destroyed.

Parks and Recreation Director Dale Dawson said a hammer was used to ruin park benches and tiles from the skate ramps were torn off.

He said repairs are being made to the park, but a date has not been set for its reopening. Police have not made any arrests as of yet.
