Recently I had the privilege of being a judge at the annual Erie County Independent Study Fair. As a parent of one of the participants and as a sixth grade teacher, I want the public to know how amazing these projects were. The schools from Sandusky Central Catholic, Kelleys Island, Margaretta, Perkins Vermilion and Huron were well represented by the students in attendance.
I wanted to commend these hard workers on the terrific, creative and stimulating projects. Not only were the visuals well done, the students had to present information orally to adult judges. Those in attendance were able to witness the work ethic and dedication of both our area students and their teachers.
In an era of sometimes receiving only unflattering news on the state of our schools and young people, how refreshing it was to be part of something so awesome. This study fair was a testament of what enlightening lessons are taking place in our schools.
