PERKINS TWP.

Erie County commissioners have agreed to push contractors to hire local workers for county construction projects whenever possible.

The county has a goal to encourage contractors to hire 25 percent of its workers locally. That goal isn't always met, said Bob Warner, business agent for Painters Local 788 in Sandusky.

Warner said he knows that hiring 25 percent locally is a goal, not a requirement, but said he'd like to see more encouragement for contractors to call local unions or Your Job Store to fill jobs.
