State highway patrol troopers at the Milan post were bombarded by accidents on Thursday between mile markers 80 and 160 on the turnpike.
There were at least eight accidents throughout the day.
A trooper on duty said the accidents were caused by a combination of heavy rain and speeding motorists.
"When you have rains that are heavy it puddles up pretty fast," said Sgt. Phil Ralston, who was on duty Thursday night. "A lot of people weren't slowing down and their cars were hydroplaning and hitting the median wall."
No one was injured.
