SANDUSKY

The Shelby Street Boat Launch Facility will be a good place for teens this summer. But the ramp, which opened April 1, won't let down fishing enthusiasts either.

So far, several regional and national fishing tournaments are scheduled. The ramp will also repeat all of last year's services, including season passes with discounts for seniors, and live, frozen and life-like bait, fishing lures and accessories.

One new program, "F-I-S-H with a Rod! & Reel!" for area young people, is funded by the Ohio Sea Grant program. From 2-4 p.m. June 20, July 18, Aug. 8 and Sept. 5, teens will have the opportunity to learn fishing basics, including tying knots and preparing the hook; how to build their own fishing rod with a pop can; and cast. They will also learn about fish biology and habitat, as well as how to build their own lure.
