Better sewer service is soon flowing into the Huron area.
Through a public records request, Erie County officials clued the Register in about pressing details about this important project:
The project: In short, construction work aims to bolster older and deficient sewers in three separate areas:
• Area No. 1, around the lake between Canton to Pittsburgh avenues: Tree roots, cracked pipes and plugging issues plague this area.
• Area No. 2, near Huron Lagoons: In some places, the sewer is below river water elevation, causing leaks to occur.
• Area No. 3 in the Chaska Beach and Beachwood Villa neighborhoods: various plugging issues.
If improvements don't happen soon, then undetected sewage leaks could seep into Lake Erie.
The beneficiaries: People living in roughly 200 homes in this area stand to receive better sewer service.
The timeline: No construction start date has been announced. All work, however, must wrap up by July 2015.
The cost: The $288,000 project financially breaks down with exactly half the amount coming from a state grant and the other half through Erie County's sewer funds.
