50 years ago, 1964: Author Ian Fleming, who created the fictional James Bond - "British secret agent 007" - and devised some of the most grisly deaths in literature, died following a heart attack, he was 56. 

25 years ago, 1989: Moon gazers in the Eastern United States  would witness their first total lunar eclipse in seven years - a colorful, natural spectacle conveniently set in a prime-time slot. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes into Earth's shadow and is dimmed, giving off a coppery-red glow.

10 years ago, 2004: Alice Cooper's show at the Sandusky State Theatre brought three generations of fans together in downtown Sandusky to witness a man who maintained his rock star persona for over 30 years. Fathers held sons on their shoulders; mothers and daughters dressed alike; grown men in golf shirts mingled with dog-collar toting teens.
