Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
Steve Snider, the executive director of the Sandusky area YMCA, is stepping down after 13 years of service and will accept the same position at a Uniontown, Pennsylvania YMCA facility. His last day will be June 20 and will begin his new position July 1.
Under Snider’s leadership, membership at the Sandusky facility increased 50 percent, with attendance being the best it has ever been.
“He was well-liked,” said John Feick, spokesperson for the Sandusky YMCA. “There is no question that he was a great hire 13 years ago.”
The Board must go by Y-USA’S customary starting procedures for hiring a new director, which takes about two or three months to complete. Once this is done, the board may start the search process.
In all, it will be a year before the board will be ready to hire a new leader.
“Partly the time frame is driven because we are doing a strategic plan for the Y as a whole,” Feick said. “That will help us answer the question of what type of person we will be looking for.”
According to a recent press release, the Sandusky facility’s Board of Directors “has developed a leadership transition plan that builds upon the success of our YMCA today and maintains excellence in executive leadership to assure a strong YMCA for generations to come.”
Snider will certainly miss Sandusky, a place he has called home for over a decade.
"[It's] bittersweet," Snider said. "I'm excited for the opportunities I'll have in Uniontown, but I'm also sad because I've made a lot of friends in my 13.5 years here."
The YMCA would like to host a farewell party Wednesday, June 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at its Sandusky location to wish Snider good luck with his new position.
“We wish Steve all the best in the future and thank him for his contribution to the Sandusky Area YMCA and our community,” Feick said in a recent release. “He will be missed.”
