Jury awards $39M in repaving accident

Associated Press • Apr 7, 2014 at 4:20 PM

An attorney for the family of victim Randy Roginski described the working conditions in the construction zone on Interstate 271 near Cleveland as “ridiculously dangerous.”

Roginski, 41, died in 2010 in an accident just after midnight in which the driver whose car struck him was not charged. The Plain Dealer reported a Cuyahoga County jury on Thursday awarded $19 million in compensation to Roginski’s wife and three children and $20 million in punitive damages against The Shelly Co., one of Ohio’s largest paving companies.

The Shelly Co. said it was disappointed, denied responsibility for the accident and planned to fight the verdict.
