Cedar Point to hire 5,000

Screams, laughter and paychecks will soon start flowing at Cedar Point.

Park officials have been interviewing people since February for seasonal jobs, with the next session scheduled for Saturday.

Before the park opens in May, administrators must hire 5,000 seasonal workers.

”It’s a labor of love,” said Pam Romo, human resources manager for Cedar Fair. “We are looking for people who are enthusiasts, reliable, who want to be of service to others. And of course, if there is someone who wants to truly have fun, come see us.”

More than 70 types of jobs are available, including positions in rides, food service, games, merchandise, accommodations, marketing, maintenance, safety, security and sweeps, better known as the park ambassadors.

The amusement park operator has several months of fun-filled operations to cover. There are also jobs to be had in the fall, when HalloWeekends rolls out and local high schoolers go back to school.

To keep the park staffed for optimal guest experience, Cedar Point hires from a wide pool of candidates, including international students and local retirees.

”We want a diverse applicant pool because it makes it more exciting, more fun,” Romo said. “Our guests are also diverse. Wewant them to connect with them.”

Given the park’s renown worldwide, there are plenty of international students applying for seasonal jobs.

Last year, the park received more than 20,000 applications from just about every state in the U.S. and at least 30 countries.

Cedar Point employees receive free entry into the park and Soak City all summer, as well as access to a recreation center.

The park also offers low-cost employee housing for qualified candidates.
