Monday afternoon, Sandusky police accompanied a city housing authority employee to a home in the 1200 block of W. Monroe St., after someone reported three people squatting there in unsanitary conditions, according to a Sandusky police report.

Officers knocked on the door and saw a man peer out from behind a bedroom wall. When they made entry, however, the man was nowhere to be found.

Inside, officers located a live, mixed-breed Terrier locked in the home’s basement. They also discovered the carcass of a male pit bull puppy in the home, the report said. The home was covered in trash and human and animal feces.

When officers finished investigating, workers boarded up the home.

Neither dog was identifiable. Officials took the terrier to the dog pound and disposed of the puppy’s carcass.
