50 years ago, 1964: Half of Put-in-Bay's food supply went up in flames when Schnoor's Store burned. It was also the island's only drug store, hardware store and newsstand. The cause of the $100,000 blaze was undetermined.
25 years ago, 1989: "Rain Man" was named favorite dramatic film at the 15th annual People's Choice Awards over "Die Hard" and "Young Guns". "Rosanne" was named favorite new television comedy series, Bill Cosby and Cher won as America's favorite all-around stars.
10 years ago, 2004: A corpse-selling scandal at UCLA underlined a squeamish fact for people thinking of leaving their remains to science: Bodies were big money. The university agreed to halt its Willed Body Program until done investigating two employees who sold body parts for their own profit.
