50 years ago, 1964: February's "unemployed-a-week-or-more" rolls for Erie County averaged 390 fewer claimants than the same time in 1963, according to statistics released by the State Bureau of Unemployment Compensation.
25 years ago, 1989: A barn fire at a Monroeville farm that caused more than $100,000 in damages and killed several cows might have been started when one of the cows kicked over a heat lamp. Only the frame of the barn remained when firefighters reached the scene.
10 years ago, 2004: Doc Severinsen performed at the State Theatre in Sandusky. He and his big band played for more than two hours. Severinsen was the Tonight Show band leader for 25 years.
