50 years ago, 1964: Erie County Highway Department was ordered to burn or bury all dead or dying American Elm tree branches along county roads in order to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm disease. The disease systematically destroyed one of America's more prominent shade trees.
25 years ago, 1989: The Ohio Lottery Commission said that no one had yet claimed the $3 million prize won in the Super Lotto drawing from a ticket believed to have been purchased from either Mel's Carryout or Bar 101 in Castalia. The winner would get $120,000 per year for 20 years.
10 years ago, 2004: The Golden Raspberry Awards voters picked "Gigli" as 2003's worst picture, Ben Affleck as worst actor, Jennifer Lopez as worst actress, and the two as worst screen couple, the first movie to ever take all six top trophies in the annual dishonorable-mention awards.
