50 years ago, 1964: Twenty-five fishermen, including four women and four children, were rescued from the ice off Camp Perry after a half-mile crack sent them floating northeastward. The Coast Guard sent six rescue boats to ferry the stranded back to safety.
25 years ago, 1989: A bank in Spokane, Wash. learned an expensive lesson by refusing to validate a 60-cent parking slip for a destitute-looking man, who retaliated by withdrawing his $1 million account. He took his money down the street to the SeaFirst Bank.
10 years ago, 2004: Despite protests from teachers, staff and residents, the Sandusky City school board decided to close Campbell School at the end of the 2004 school year. The school closing would include eliminating 14 staff and six custodial positions.
