The “Building Doctors” will be holding office hours in Sandusky.
A Building Doctor clinic will be 7-9 p.m. March 13 at the Sandusky Library on West Adams Street.
The event is sponsored by the Old House Guild of Sandusky and the Ohio Historic Preservation Office of the Ohio Historical Society.
“I think Sandusky has a real jewel in downtown Sandusky. You have incredibly beautiful views and some incredible buildings downtown,” said Mariangela Pfister, acting department head of tech preservation services with the Ohio Historic Preservation Office, a division of the Ohio Historical Society.
Pfister and Scott McIntosh will be the featured techs at the clinic.
The two will focus on helping property owners of buildings 50 years or older. They will discuss preservation guidelines and ways to solve some of the most common problems of older buildings, from the roof to the foundation such as maintenance and repairs, masonry, failing plaster, roofs and windows.
“We have nothing to sell. Our advice is grounded in the Secretary of the Interior standards for preservation,” Pfister said. “We are here to help owners preserve the features of a building that make it historic. Educate them on what parts make their building historic and teach them the right way to make repairs in line with historical standards”
This event is free and open to the public.
The following day, the doctors will stop in person to conduct on site visits with a total of 10 people to advise them on their homes.
“It is on a first-come, first-serve basis based on who registers first,” Pfister said.
In a unique first for the Building Doctors, Pfister will conduct a visit at 6:30 a.m. and at 7:30 a.m. for people who find it hard to take off from work.
Each on-site visit is an hour long.
Three people are already lined up for the on-site inspections.
