A Central Avenue man called police shortly after 11 p.m. to report the incident. He said he popped his head outside after hearing a knock on his door and saw a man aiming a gun at him, the report said.

The armed man struck him in the head and pulled him outside.

The gun was found to be a BB gun, as the man’s assailants left broken pieces of it on the home’s porch when they departed, the report said. The man said the gun was fired into his eye, and someone also shoved his back during the assault. Officers found no one nearby when they arrived, and did not indicate they searched the area after learning of the assault, according to the report.

Officers did note paint streaks inside the gun’s slide, and believed they were from a paint pellet.
