50 years ago, 1964: Surgeons at the University of Mississippi Medical Center transplanted a human heart into the body of a man dying of a heart ailment. The heart beat for more than an hour, but proved inadequate for the patient and the recipient died.
25 years ago, 1989: St. Mary's High School junior varsity cheerleading squad advanced to national competition by placing first in regional competition in December. The squad was to compete against more than 175 high schools from across the country.
10 years ago, 2004: Bankrupt Chi-Chi's Inc. closed the doors on its Perkins Township restaurant, taking with it an unknown number of jobs. The Kentucky based restaurant chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Oct. 2003.
