50 years ago, 1964: A spectacular fire, visible for 10 miles, leveled the Crystal Rock skating rink in about 25 minutes at the height of a torrential downpour. High winds fanned the flames, igniting trees and threatening 150 cottages and year-round homes.
25 years ago, 1989: Condemned serial killer Ted Bundy confessed to up to eight Utah slayings, bringing to at least 16 the number of murders he admitted committing in the final days before his scheduled execution.
10 years ago, 2004: One year shy of its 30th birthday, the Sandusky Mall was getting a facelift. Mall owner Carfaro Co. said it would renovate the interior of the 750,000 square-foot structure. The project to brighten things up was to begin in March.
