For the past four years, the “fairy godmothers” of Cinderella’s Closet have ensured high costs don’t deter girls from attending their high school proms.
But even fairy godmothers need some assistance once in a while.
Cinderella’s Closet, a local nonprofit that provides girls with cost-free prom dresses, shoes, handbags and accessories, is kicking off its fourth season with its first-ever fundraiser event.
At 6 p.m. Feb. 4, the American Legion will host “Designer Handbag Bingo,” where women will have a chance to win one of 20 designer handbags, valued at more than $3,000 total.
Doors open at 5 p.m., when the event will feature raffles, food, a cash bar and auctions. Several vendors, including Mary Kay, Scentsy, Premier Jewelry and Dove Chocolate Discoveries, will also have booths at the fundraiser.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and include 20 bingo cards. All proceeds will go toward Cinderella’s Closet purchases.
Want to go? Call 419-366-4390 or email email@example.com to reserve tickets or for more information.
Many in-demand items, especially shoes and plus-sized gowns, must be purchased with donations.
“Our goal is to make it an annual fundraiser and a fun night out for everyone involved,” said Annette Ferrell, event organizer.
Ferrell founded Cinderella’s Closet in 2011 in Sandusky, and relies heavily on volunteers, grants and donations to make the magic happen. It’s housed in the Nehemiah Center, in the old Campbell Elementary School building.
The nonprofit has grown substantially since its first year, attracting hundreds of girls from as far as Cleveland and Toledo and everywhere in between. The increased demand for dresses sparked Ferrell’s idea to host a fundraiser, to ensure every girl leaves with a dress fit for a princess, no questions asked.
“We planted a seed and had no idea it’d grow this big,” Ferrell said. “But when you see the girls in the dresses, and how appreciative they are, it makes everything worth it”
Cinderella’s Closet is already accepting dress and cash donations, as well as appointments for its dress giveaway dates on April 4, 5 and 26 and May 3. Visit cinderellascloset.sanduskyspotlight.com to register or for more information.
