50 years ago, 1963: Sandusky High School complied with a new state law requiring pupils and teachers to wear protective eye wear when participating in certain vocational and chemical-physical courses or laboratories. The Board of Education was to provide the safety goggles.
25 years ago, 1988: Erie County's unemployment rate for July 1988, dropped nearly one percentage point from 5.3 in June to 4.4 percent, its lowest level in 11 years. In August of 1977 the unemployment rate for the county was 3.9 percent.
10 years ago, 2003: Ohio lost 185,000 jobs during the recession from 2001 through March 2002, according to a report. Only California and New York lost more jobs. Plus output fell faster in Ohio than in 43 other states.
