50 years ago, 1963: Bill Beck, 11, Norwalk, snagged a 26-inch Northern Pike in the Huron River. Rarely found in this area, the Northern Pike was reportedly plentiful in Canadian waters.
25 years ago, 1988: Jennifer Girard, 18, Perkins, won first place in the Ohio County and Independent Fair Queen contest at the Ohio State Fair. Girard, winner of 1987 Erie County Fair Queen, ran against 40 other contestants.
10 years ago, 2003: A 29-year-old Norwalk man was accused of letting llamas loose, threatening a woman, and driving a lawnmower while intoxicated. He was charged with several misdemeanors and jailed on a $10,000 bond.
