50 years ago, 1963: Police Chief Traver ordered a crackdown on one of the main recreational pursuits of Sandusky's younger set - "Buzzing the Ave." The bumper-to-bumper traffic made it hard for local shoppers to get in and out of parking spaces. It was so popular that teens from other cities were coming to town to ring-a-rosie.

25 years ago, 1988: The U.S. frigate "Montgomery" steamed to the aid of a Danish supertanker under attack by three Iranian gunboats in the Persian Gulf, and fired a warning shot, frightening off the hostile vessels. The warship was on routine patrol in the gulf and answered a distress call from the giant Danish tanker.

10 years ago, 2003: Tuscarora was scheduled to close mid July of 2003. The packing plant opened on Warren Street in 1929, as OP Craft Co. It was called Formpac when Tuscarora bought it and moved to Monroe Street about 12 years ago. The plant was closing due to the poor economy.
