50 years ago, 1963: Mitzi Lynne, accomplished organist, was set to open the summer season at Bonnie Lanes, playing Tuesdays through Saturdays. The popular bowling spot had a brand new modern cocktail lounge with air conditioning, which was to be the center of Miss Lynne's entertainment.
25 years ago, 1988: Mary Ann Lavender was named "Woman of the Year" by the Sandusky Business and Professional Women. Lavender spent her life volunteering, and was the primary influence behind creation of the Erie County Voluntary Action Center in 1981.
10 years ago, 2003: David Brinkley, a pioneering TV journalist who became a household name delivering a sign-off he didn't even like, died at 82. He won 10 Emmy awards, three George Foster Peabody Awards and in 1992, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
