50 years ago, 1963: A three-quarter million dollar dredging project in Huron Harbor by the Nickel Plate Railroad Co. got under way. The project would enable Cleveland Cliffs' flagship "Walter Sterling," which needed 26-foot draft, to enter the harbor with a full load.
25 years ago, 1988: Margaretta won the Sandusky Bay Conference girls all-sports trophy for the second year in a row. The Polar Bears amassed 38 points to edge past St. Mary Central Catholic which had a total of 35 points.
10 years ago, 2003: The lives of Ohio children improved since 1993, but not as much as children nationwide, according to an annual study. Overall, the well-being of Ohio children fell from 22nd in 1990 to 28th out of the 50 states in 2000. Ohio did improve its infant mortality rate.
