50 years ago, 1963: Harold Stockdale was honored by Erie County lawyers for his 40 years of service to the common pleas court. Stockdale had served as court baliff since 1923, when Judge Roy Williams sat on the bench. He did not retire, members of the Bar simply decided to pay tribute to a court legend.
25 years ago, 1988: Robert Latta finally conceded the month-old GOP primary race to Paul Gilmore, saying the time would be better spent opposing the Democrat who sought the 5th Congressional District seat. Latta lost the nomination by 27 votes.
10 years ago, 2003: Fishinig Report: In the Western Basin catches of 22 to 28 inch trophy walleye were being pulled in around Kelleys Island. Limit catches of 14 to 20 inch fish increased in West Sister Island area. Large fish were being caught near Kelleys Island Shoal by trolling or drifting bottom bouncers southeast of the island.
