50 years ago, 1963: By a mere 19 votes, the Huron Local School District's $660,000 bond issue was approved. Plans were immediately made to start roof repairs at Ohio Street Junior High School and the addition to Shawnee Elementary School.
25 years ago, 1988: U.S. imports of Saudi Arabian oil surged in 1988, according to the Energy Department. In February of 1988 imports of Saudi crude averaged about 1.2 million barrels a day, a 400,000 daily increase over January of 1988. For all of 1987, Saudi oil imports averaged about 600,000 barrels per day.
10 years ago, 2003: A Huron man wanted on a contempt of court charge led Perkins police on a high-speed chase. The man refused to stop for police flashing lights and led them on a chase, going 120 mph at times. When finally stopped the man would not cooperate with officers, who had guns drawn telling him to get down.
