A Fremont man died Wednesday when the motorcycle he was driving slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer at an Ohio Turnpike exit ramp, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Milan post.

Douglas Rhoades, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rhoades was driving a 2002 Honda Goldwing east on the Ohio Turnpike when at about 5:30 p.m. he exited at the Fremont toll gate in Sandusky Township. The motorcycle crossed over a concrete divider strip and headed into the westbound entrance ramp, where it struck a 2000 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer, troopers said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Roger Tooley, 56, of Kent, was not injured.

Rhoades was wearing a helmet, and the crash remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were firefighters and paramedics from Sandusky County. Employes from the Sandusky County coroner’s office were also there.
