Ottawa County deputies are on the lookout for the driver of a black SUV who allegedly tried to abduct a 9-year-old and two 16-year-olds Monday evening in Allen Township.
The mother of the 9-year-old girl called police just before 7 p.m., after she and her daughter encountered the man, described as between 60 and 70 years old, thin, with scruffy gray facial hair, according to a police report.
The mother was out for a run on Reiman Road in Curtice, her daughter riding on a bicycle beside her, when she allowed her daughter to ride ahead to the bridge at the end of Cedar Street where she could rest until her mother caught up with her.
While the 9-year-old was waiting on her mother, the driver pulled up beside her, opened the back of his vehicle and reached behind him.
When she spotted the driver, she started running toward her daughter.
When the driver saw her, he took off from the area.
The girl told police the man didn't say anything to her when he stopped his vehicle.
About an hour later, a mother of twin 16-year-olds called police about another abduction attempt.
Her daughters and two other teen girls were walking on Front Street when a man in a dark-colored vehicle approached them and demanded they get in the vehicle.
He told them to get into his car several times, until one of the teens panicked and ran away.
The girls described the vehicle as an older, dark colored SUV, but were unsure of the license plate number.
Deputies searched the area, but were unable to find the vehicle. Other nearby law enforcement agencies were notified of the incident.
