Sandusky Register Staff • Oct 8, 2012 at 5:24 PM

Tiffany M. Fischer, 33, of Rocky River, was driving south on South Danbury Road at about 5 p.m. Sunday when she stopped her car at a Norfolk and Southern Railroad crossing.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, Fischer got out of her car and waved her arms at the engineers of can oncoming 72-car train, which was unable to stop before hitting the car.

The car then spun off the tracks, striking Fischer, who suffered serious injuries as a result of the impact. The train continued down the tracks before coming to a stop 2100 feet east of the crossing.

Officials are still investigating the incident, and it's not yet clear why Fischer stopped on the tracks. Alcohol is believed to be involved.

Troopers say charges are pending.
