Library presenting poets for National Poetry Month

SANDUSKY — April is National Poetry Month.You can celebrate by sitting at home and reading poetry by yourself, of course, but Sandusky Library hopes you'll come to the library for a program by a prominent Ohio poet.David Sapp, an art professor, artist and poet who lives in Berlin Heights, will appear at the library at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a poetry reading, "An Evening of Love Poems."And Dave Lucas, the state poet laureate for Ohio and a Sandusky Register poetry columnist, will be at the library at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 30. Sapp is an art professor at BGSU Firelands and director of the campus' Little Gallery. He is the author of a novel, "Flying Over Erie," has published his poetry widely, and has exhibited his art both locally at Carrington Arts in downtown Sandusky, and at venues such as the Toledo Museum of Art and the Toyohashi City Museum in Japan. Lucas is serving a two-year term as Ohio's poet laureate. As part of his duties, he is writing a monthly column on poetry that appears in the Sandusky Register and other state newspapers.Lucas is the author of the poetry collection "Weather," which received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry.National Poetry Month began in 1996.
