75 years ago, 1941: Richard Whitney, former president of the New York Stock Exchange, left Sing Sing prison to start life anew as a dairy farmer. He completed three years and four months of a five to ten year term for grand larceny. Whitney, whose personal and company holdings once totalled millions, left prison with $183.50 years ago, 1966: Three U.S. Air Force fighter bombers attacked a U.S. Coast Guard cutter by mistake, killing two Coast Guardmen and wounding five other persons in the second mistake bombing in 48 hours. The first mistake bombing was against a town south of Saigon killing 26 persons and wounding 114, mostly women and children.25 years ago, 1991: A crowd of 10,000 crazed teen-aged girls turned into a stampede the moment Luke Perry, star of the teen-cult TV show "Beverly Hills 90210" bounded onto a stage at a Florida mall to sign autographs.
