Business owners worry new tax rule will bury them

Area businesses say a provision buried inside the nation's health care reform bill will drown them in paperwork.

They're now trying to get Congress to throw them a lifeline by repealing the rule.

The new rule says that, starting in 2012, when a business pays $600 to any vendor, it must issue the customer a Form 1099 to report the income the vendor received.

Cedar Point's attendance soars with the thermometer

Much like the temperature and humidity, Cedar Point's revenues skyrocketed in late June and early July.

That's probably not a coincidence, park and city officials said.

Between June 20 and July 20, the city collected about $429,000 in admissions-tax revenues, nearly double the previous month's numbers.

Sandusky Co. sales tax will go from 6.75 percent to 7 percent Oct. 1

FREMONT

The Sandusky County commissioners have approved an emergency sales tax hike that's set to go into effect Oct. 1.

The tax increase will take the county sales tax from 6.75 percent to 7 percent for three years.

Sandusky finances show progress; admissions tax collections show slow start for Cedar Point

SANDUSKY

For the second straight month, the city's finances showed a slight improvement.

But unless it sees larger gains soon, Sandusky will still lose money in 2010.

With half the year's finances officially on the books, the city's income-tax revenue was down 6.8 percent compared to 2009.
