Presbyopia, which is not being able to see things close up, is common around the age of 40. Bifocals can correct this vision problem. Cataracts is another common vision problem in later life. According to the National Eye Institute, in 2010, "By age 75, half of white Americans have cataracts. By age 80, 70 percent of whites have cataract compared with 53 percent of blacks and 61 percent of Hispanic Americans." Thankfully, cataracts are a treatable condition.
