Muskrat love | Sandusky Register 75 years ago, 1943: Trappers in the Lake Erie area reported an estimated crop of 100,000 or more muskrats to be caught this season, which means approximately 50 tons of food product which will be used in replacing meats in some of the places where muskrat is considered good eating. Demand for muskrat is increasing rapidly and trappers are receiving as high as $2 per pelt.
