Local officials are reminding motorists to brake for safety during Ohio Bike Week. Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said the 10-day event is relatively safe, but he's prepared to deal with any problems if necessary.

Frances L. Messer, 88, of Sandusky and formerly of Clyde, died Monday, May 31, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

Mary J. Fedlam, 91, of Sandusky, passed away late Saturday evening, May 29, 2010, surrounded by her family in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.

Six minutes. According to fire records, that's how long it took for the fire department to arrive after it first received notice of the Jan. 1 blaze at 10 E. Sprucewood Drive. The department received the alarm at 2:21 a.m., and arrived by 2:27 a.m., the records show.

Q: I heard Markley's opening was being delayed because of the city's slow processing of a Revolving Loan Fund loan. The loan was approved last year, and apparently Markley's still doesn't have the money. What's the deal? Jim on Erie Boulevard
