On June 10 I went to the county building at 8:10 a.m. and since Bike Week was in full swing, the downtown was barricaded. Even the parking garage was not accessible.

Drill, baby, drill ... more. One day after finding coal tar in the city's bedrock, the EPA wants to expand the city's coal tar investigation. The EPA would like Sandusky to drill a fourth hole west of the first three holes to determine if the coal tar plume lurking beneath the Paper District is larger than previously thought.

Drillers appear to have found coal tar in the bedrock beneath Sandusky. They found a "dark brown oily substance," which smelled and looked like coal tar. It will now be taken to a laboratory to be tested.

After one lawsuit and nearly a year of discussion, Sandusky city commissioners on Monday approved a lease agreement with the Sandusky Yacht Club. The agreement will allow the club to build 30 new boating docks north of the former Surf's Up property.

SANDUSKY No arrests have been made in the days following a Hancock Street gunfight that left an innocent bystander hospitalized and police searching for answers. Sandusky police responded to Hancock and Neil streets at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of shots fired.

The Erie County Republican Party decided not to sweep out the young and bring in the old, after all. A party meeting last week pitted Matt Old, 24, the incumbent chairman seeking a second term, against a veteran challenger -- Milan Mayor Robert Bickley, 75, who served as the party's chairman from 1974 to 1976.
