Thirkell “Thirk” Jones, 51, of Sandusky, departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Cleveland Clinic, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 22, 1960, in Columbus, Miss., son of Willie C. Jones and the late Annie (Skipper) Jones. Thirk was a graduate of Sandusky High School and was an avid Cleveland sports fan who enjoyed watching the Browns and Cavaliers. He also enjoyed hunting with his father and friends, watching after his grandson, perfecting his scrap metal business, and spending time with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 33 years Karen (Cooley) Jones; daughters, Tomeka (Derrick) Cooley-Pettus and Tierra Jones, of Dayton, Ohio, and Thirkeshia Jones and Tanisha Jones, of Sandusky; son, Trey Jones, of Sandusky; brothers, Willie C. (Betty) Jones Jr., of Fontana, Calif., Wavie Jones, of Hampton, Va., Eddie (Carmen) Jones, of Roswell, N.M., Charles (Tamala) Jones, of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Theotis (Kerry) Jones, of Canton, Mich.; sisters, Lisa (Terry) Jones-Edmon, of Sandusky, Princess (Mario) Jones-Knox, of Fontana, Calif., and Allison (Rodney) Agard, of Phoenix; grandchildren, Dominik Richardson Jr., of Sandusky, and Destiny and Isiah Pettus, of Dayton; mother-in-law Ada Mae Cooley; brothers-in-law, Darnell (Cherissa) Cooley, Leon (Lora) Cooley, and Robert Lee (Mary) Cooley; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cooley, Tracey Cooley and Mary (Wayne) Pickens; stepsisters, Deborah Graves, Donna (Dennis) Palmer, Crystal (Zachery) Randleman, Marian (Spencer) Hill and Dionne (Sean) Amison; stepbrothers, Michael (Millie) Graves, Larry Graves and Donald (Charmaine) Graves; devoted niece and nephew, Shanell Cooley and Darius Graves; special friend Clay Wilson; special aunt Anna Barron; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother Tommie L. Dillard; uncle Thirkee Barron; stepmother Junes E. Graves; father-in-law Leroy Cooley; and stepsister June Cunningham.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, until funeral services at 1 p.m. in Porter’s Memorial CME Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Minister Ricky Knight will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
