John C. Hemmer, 55, of Sandusky, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, in Erie County Care Facility after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1956, in Sandusky, and was a lifelong resident. John was a self employed painter, Hemmer Painting and D & J Construction, for more than 20 years. He belonged to Painters Union Local 788. In his younger years, he worked for Sandusky Dressed Beef Company, Sandusky.
He enjoyed billiards and belonged to several pool leagues for more than 30 years; playing cards with family and friends and spending time with them, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (Smith), to whom he was married for 28 years; a son John Charles (Tanya) Hemmer Jr., of Republic; grandsons, Logan and Dominic Hemmer; sisters, Valerie Rose of Greenwood, Ind., Teresa (Richard) Millis, of Curtice, Ohio, and Kelly Jo (Brian) Parish, of Sandusky; brother Ricky (Ann Hammons) Hemmer, of Sandusky; stepmother Ramola Hemmer, of Sandusky; stepgrandmother Mary Eloise Evans of Sandusky; and special friends, Cheryl and Matthew Eschenauer and Tara Grodi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Frederick and Wilma Jean (Evans) Hemmer; a daughter Tara Lynn Hemmer; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday. Feb. 6, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
