Duane James Zielske, 86, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, Jan. 31, 2012, in The Commons Memory Care Unit .
He was born April 25, 1925, in Sandusky, to William and Helen (Reuter) Zielske and attended Huron High School . He was married to his beloved Muriel for 66 years.
Jim Zielske enjoyed a life of hard work and entrepreneurial endeavors. He grew up on a farm, worked at many jobs before he and his wife purchased and operated Miracle Acres produce farm on Patten Tract Road. After farming for 25 years he transitioned to demolition and excavating by owning and operating Sandusky Wrecking Company.
He was known about town as a shrewd and wise businessman and a steady customer at several local breakfast shops including Jolly Donut. Respected by many, he valued the Lord’s work as much as his own. He attended Calvary Temple Church and supported the Christian Business Men’s Club, Gideon’s Bible Society and Wycliffe Bible Translation for many years.
His favorite saying was “What in the world!”
He is survived by three daughters, Jane (Hudson) Webb of Fairfax, Va., Mary Jo (Robert) Stephenson of Sandusky and Ruth (Jeff) Currie of Ewing, N.J.; daughter-in-law Beverly Zielske of Boca Raton, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife Muriel, his son Michael Zielske; his parents; and his brother William Zielske, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Calvary Temple, Columbus Avenue and East Washington Row, Sandusky, with the Rev. J. David Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
