Shirley Marie (Ermatinger) Ginty, 84, of Sandusky passed away June 8, 2011, in the Stein Hospice cluster at Erie County Care Facility following a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born to Shirley and Alex Ermatinger May 24, 1927, in Cleveland.
She attended and graduated from Andrews School for Girls, and then went on to St. John Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her RN Degree.
After receiving her nursing degree she worked at St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland, moving up to the supervisor position prior to leaving to start a family. After her children were all in school, she returned to nursing, working at the Erie County Care Facility in Huron where she became afternoon supervisor and remained in that position until her retirement in 1989.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Gerald Ginty (formerly of Lorain) and their nine children, Mary Jo (Costello) of Long Beach, Calif., John (Jodi) Ginty of Bellevue, Carol (Dan) Geist of Boxborough, Mass., Patti (Mike) Bunt of Emience, Ky.; Richard Ginty of Youngstown, Ohio, Bill Ginty of Farum, Denmark, Donald Ginty of Sandusky, Joe (Norah) Ginty of Lancaster, Ohio and Mark (Bronwyn) Ginty of Gahanna, Ohio.
Additional survivors include18 grandchildren, Tony (Scotia) Delpercio, Jessica, Laurel, Ariel, David, Jasmine, Alex, Christina, Amber, Colin, Rosie, Jonathan, Victoria, Spencer, Savannah, Anna, Aedan and Maeve; two great-grandchildren. Abigayle and Kamron; brother Bill (Mary Jean) Ermatinger of Parkton, Md.; and sister, Marion Buchanan of Lancaster, Calif., as well as other members within the Ginty and Ermatinger families.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald, Eugene and James.
She was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish, Sandusky, including Altar and Rosary Society, Women’s Choir and the Funeral Choir. Additionally, she volunteered and/or was active in Erie Shore Network, taking blood pressures for the mall walking group, Sandusky Library Book Discussion Club, Community supper, and other local choral groups. She was an avid gardener and loved growing flowers and vegetables.
Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday July 1, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Jason Kahle will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
